A-Frayed Not

One brief respite from the cacophonous maelstrom of impunitious happenitutes…a single moment to catch half a breath…and back into the fray.

Deafening Silence

WARNING: Some readers may find the following to be very obscure and/or obfuscated. Those with little or no creativity in their souls may wish to pass over this post and read something about how to make more money.

When was the last time you got out of the city and found some wilderness (whatever that may look like for you...RV with full satellite, campground with showers and toilets, or naked in a lean-to with some minty dental floss and a plastic spoon (that's right, not a spork, but a spoon!))? I was in Willmore (just north of Jasper) this past weekend and spent some much needed time laying by a river, doing nothing. I was struck by the sound of the silence. Even with the sounds of the river rushing beside me, birds singing, and the wind there was an undercurrent of pure silence. This is something you just can't find in the city or even in small towns. If you haven't taken time to get out and listen to the silence I suggest you drop what you're doing right now and go!

Excuses, Excuses

This is just a quick post to say why I haven't posted much lately, a trend which will most likely continue for a while. Life's been very busy lately with a church garage sale and 2 bbqs, still unpacking, training at work, etc.

Looking forward to getting out to the mountains this weekend and will try to post more next week.

Out.

Sweet Jet-lag Is Mine

I have been informed that jet-lag is supposed to be easier on the way home. This is a cruel lie and all who uphold it should die slow and painful deaths! I thought I had overcome the beast with one good night's sleep, but alas I awoke this morning ready to face the day only to realize that it was 4am and no amount of counting the non-existant dots on the ceiling could remedy the situation.

In some ways it's good to be back, and not so in others. It's good to have a familiar bed (one that has no direct ties to the concrete family) and seeing friends again is nice. But I am finding it difficult to adjust to the NA lifestyle again (and I was only gone a month). After traipsing about China with naught but a single backpack it's hard to ease back into a life filled with cars that need to be fueled, houses that need to be filled with junk, and lattes that need to be expertly slung. Some days a random house fire looks pretty good...
